In-School Music mission
Music education with Keiko Studios is not limited to our Jamaica Avenue location. We also teach at DOE, charter, and private schools. We care about providing programs to schools that are missing this essential subject and building a more involved and unified community through music education. We offer in-school music programs to all grade levels: pre-kindergarten, elementary, middle and high schools. This is an opportunity to educate, challenge and stimulate students through singing, movement, instrument playing, reading, and performance. Students learn from our professionally trained musicians/educators, who not only give them musical knowledge, but the confidence to let their talents be known.

Our in-school offerings
Choir / glee club
In our choir program, also known as Glee Club, our professional instructors provide students in grades 1 through 12 with a multitude of skills including: vocal technique, collaborative skills, stage presence, showmanship, creativity, and confidence. Many of these skills are beneficial, not only to be well-rounded musicians, but well-rounded individuals.

Students learn to master Vocal Technique, which includes: breath control, phonation, resonation and articulation, as well as grasping concepts such as tone, expression, musicality and meaning, and expression.

Students learn Music Theory concepts such as tempo, dynamics, pitch, form, musical notation and sight singing: where they will understand how to read and recognize notes along with lyrics on written sheet music.

Ear Training allows students to identify pitches, intervals, melody, chords, rhythms and other basic musical elements, solely by hearing.

Song and Choral Pieces allow students to sing in unison or in two to three part harmonies. Our program offers a variety of genres including pop, musical theater, and many more!

At the end of the term, students will have Performance Opportunities to showcase what they have learned. This also extends to solo opportunities for our more advanced students.
Students grade 1 to 12
Best for:
Guitar
Our acoustic Guitar classes are an excellent gateway to the fundamentals of playing the guitar in a group setting. The skills cultivated from these classes are applicable to the electric guitar and are interchangeable across a multitude of genres.

Introducing acoustic Guitar Technique, students learn the 6 strings, notes, chords, and solidify musical concepts through playing songs.

Students learn Music Theory concepts such as tempo, dynamics, form, and musical notation: how to read and recognize notes on written sheet music.

Ear Training allows students to identify pitches, intervals, melody, chords, rhythms and other basic musical elements, solely by hearing.

At the end of the term, students will have Performance Opportunities to showcase what they have learned. This also extends to solo opportunities for our more advanced students.
Note: Some children may be too small to comfortably hold a full-sized guitar.

Students grades 4 to 12
Best for:
general music education
General Music Education is a wonderful opportunity for students to gain a comprehensive and well rounded education on the basics of music, especially at the beginner stage. This course provides:

Students will learn Singing in unison, or two to three part harmonies, and accompany themselves with body percussion and movement.

Students will learn Music Theory concepts: tempo, dynamics, pitch, form, musical notation - how to read and recognize notes on written sheet music.

Students will participate in Instrument Playing on small percussion instruments students will learn percussion techniques, rhythms, steady beat, play two-parts, and solidify musical concepts through playing songs.

Ear Training allows students will learn to identify, solely by hearing, pitches, intervals, melody, chords, rhythms, and other basic elements of music.

Students will learn musical concepts like tempo, dynamics, pitch, form, and rhythm through Movement Activities.

Students will have Performance Opportunities to perform group pieces they’ve learned at the end of the term. Opportunities for solo performances from exceptional students are available.

Students grade Pre-K to 12
Best for:

Our classes in Drums immerse students in the fundamentals of playing drums or percussion in a group setting. Such skills are applicable to the drum kit and interchangeable across a multitude of genres.

Introducing Drum Technique, students will be given hand drums or drum pads and sticks to learn rhythms, steady beat, playing two-parts, and solidify musical concepts through playing songs.

Students learn Music Theory concepts such as tempo, dynamics, form, and musical notation: how to read and recognize notes on written sheet music.

At the end of the term, students will have Performance Opportunities to showcase what they have learned. This also extends to solo opportunities for our more advanced students.

Our Vocal program is very similar to our General Music Education program with a focus on singing rather than instrument playing. This curriculum benefits schools and/or programs that do not have access to percussion instruments of their own.
Students grades Pre-k to 12
Best for:

Keiko Studios' Keyboard classes are a great way for students to discover the piano playing fundamentals in a group environment. The skills they learn from these lessons on the keyboard are applicable to the acoustic piano or organ and are interchangeable across a multitude of genres.

On individual keyboards, students will learn Keyboard Technique, such as proper posture, fingering, and solidify musical concepts through playing songs.

Students learn Music Theory concepts such as tempo, dynamics, form, and musical notation: how to read and recognize notes on written sheet music.

Ear Training allows students to identify pitches, intervals, melody, chords, rhythms and other basic musical elements, solely by hearing.

Recorder
Recorder classes are a wonderful way for students to learn the fundamentals of playing a wind instrument in a group setting. These skills can later be applied to instruments such as saxophone, clarinet, and flute and can be used across many genres.

Early Childhood music "keiko kids"
Early childhood music classes are both educational and fun for young students who are just beginning their study of music. Children ages 2 years to 4 years old learn basic musical concepts through percussion instruments, listening, singing, and movement. Our skilled early childhood music educators use age-appropriate activities to increase motor control and inner-hearing, enabling a natural transition to instrument lessons.

Students will learn Music Theory concepts: tempo, dynamics, pitch, form, musical notation - how to read and recognize notes on written sheet music.

Private lessons provide a customized learning experience for students. With one-on-one attention, the student is afforded the chance to work on their specific needs and desires.

BAND: WIND OR STRING ENSEMBLE
An ensemble is a wonderful opportunity for students to develop their ability to work as a functioning member of a large instrumental ensemble. It also develops their overall musicianship in order to achieve professional competence, as well as provides a means of self-actualization for the future lifelong musician.

On individual instruments students will learn Instrument Technique such as proper posture, fingering, positions, and solidify musical concepts through playing songs.

Students will learn Music Theory concepts: tempo, dynamics, pitch, form, musical notation - how to read and recognize notes on written sheet music.

Ear Training allows students to identify, solely by hearing, pitches, intervals, melody, chords, rhythms, and other basic elements of music.

Students will play pieces from a wide range of genres and styles from their Repertoire such as classical, pop, jazz, latin, holiday music, and more.
