Juan Carlos Polo
Drummer, composer, and educator originally from Peru with
more than 15 years of experience. Juan Carlos is currently a
Master’s student in the Jazz program at the Brooklyn College-
Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of the multiple Grammy
Award winner Arturo O'Farrill, and also holds a Bachelor’s degree
in Percussion from the National Conservatory of Music in Lima-
As an educator, most of his experience has been focused on
working with children and youth, always encouraging
them to work in groups and ensembles in which they learn how
to communicate musically and respect each other.
Classically trained, he has participated as soloist in many editions
of “The International Contemporary Classical Music Festival” as
well as the “International Percussion Festival of Lima”. In New
York he has studied privately with Nicky Marrero (La Fania All
Stars), Mark Guiliana, John Riley and Ziv Ravitz.
He released his debut album “Insomnio” on November 3, 2016 under “One Trick Dog Records” label that is home to important jazz figures such as the Israeli pianist Roy Assaf. The official CD release concert was held on February 1, 2017 at world renowned Smoke Jazz Club in NYC.
An active performer in the New York City jazz scene, he currently
leads his own project, with which he plays in different venues in
the city. Additionally, he has recorded more than fifteen albums
with some of the most respected Peruvian, Brazilian and American
artists of various styles.
